Driver Returns To Scene Of Fatal Crash After Leaving Area: Maryland State Police

The driver who struck and killed a pedestrian in Prince George’s County on Monday night thought twice about fleeing in Bowie and returned to the scene of the crash, state police say.

Shortly after 9:45 p.m. on Monday, April 10, troopers from the Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack were called to the southbound lanes of US Route 301 near Excalibur Road in Bowie, when a person was struck by a Honda Pilot.

Police say that the driver of the Honda was traveling southbound in the left lane on Route 301 when the pedestrian was hit, and temporarily left the area before returning to assist with the investigation.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by state police investigators. Their identity is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

While troopers cleared the area, the roadway was closed for approximately two hours. The crash remains under investigation.
